Come join us for Pints for Pits!

Third Base in South Austin is hosting Pints for Pits from 5-9 August 14, 2010. Come out with us and have a beer or two with your best friend!! We just can’t get enough of Beer and Pitties!!!

This location has a great outdoor patio, so bring your pooch and your pocketbook — and invite your friends and family (and their dogs) to join us! It will be fun way to get to know each other and show our pittie pride at this dog-friendly hang-out spot.

We will have T-Shirts for you and your pooch, stickers and other goodies for sale. There is also going to be a live screen printing of bandannas for your pooch, with services donated by Industry Print Shop, as well as a Washers Tournament (with cash prizes!). It should be a blast!!!

And, of course, we will continue our tradition for the early birds with a limited supply of a new edition, collectible pint glass.

PLEASE spread the word to others — we want a big turnout. It will be a great time! You can RSVP here

Angelo…

I Don’t Think You Are Ready For This “gel-y”

And I am coming…Soon! To the ATX. So, get ready.
I rock, just like the ATX.  Ladies, if you would like to know more about me contact: volunteer@love-a-bull.org.

Don’t Hate Me Because I am Beautiful – Shiloh

Shiloh came in through the backdoor.  But will leave through the front.

Shiloh is the pregnant doggie that snuck into a man’s backyard in Luling. Leala and Lydia (L-A-B Board Members) went out there and brought her to Austin, as well as worked tirelessly to get her up to date at the vet, a foster, and spayed after she had puppies.  Oh, did I mention that Leala helped the guy get his other dogs fixed  (THREE OF THEM)?  No, well..yeah.  She did.  She pretty much kicks butt.

Anyway, Shiloh here has been loving life in foster care – but still needs a forever home.  She is insanely beautiful  Like, crazy (so cray – zee, mah bay-bee) beautiful.  She is sweet as pie and loves other animals.  And those eyes.  THOSE EYES.

What is it that they say about Prince (the Purple One, not the English one) and his “deer eyes” ?  I think it’s – if you look at him directly in the face you’ll be drawn in and fall in love.

Yeah.  Kinda like Shiloh (heart thumping).

Jasper

“MEEEE TOOOO, PLEASE?”

Wow. What a difference a few months of love and attention can do.

Jasper wandered up to a farm a few months ago and joined a farmer’s pack of 5 dogs and horses. Can you imagine? Farmer walks outside to feed the animals and there he is – hand out, mouth open. “Meeee tooo! Meeeeee toooo!!!”

Long story short, the farmer couldn’t keep him, posted on Craig’s List that he was going to take hm to a shelter, and an AWESOME foster named Christina (whoop, whoop) showed up to help out little Jasper.

When he came to the family, he was nicked and scratched and covered in what looked like bites. He was bummed, to say the least. Oh, and did I mention he was heartworm positive? Well, he was heartworm positive.

Christina and her family (which includes a doggie) nursed him back to health. His hair has grown back and covered up the scars from the past. The love and care that he has been receiving has started to replace the presumably scary and hard life he had before. And now – he is ready to start his forever life.

I am ALMOST as superstitious as a baseball player. So, I am going to reserve some of the story until it pans out. But, just know he is fixin’ to be done with heartworm treatment, and is possibly going to a new home!!! Ok, ok… I will update later. But, let’s all knock wood, throw salt over our shoulders, wear the same socks like a baseball player and hope that with all of that – it will work out in Jasper’s favor.

In the meantime, check out this link. These are pics of Jasper from before and after..

Jasper

Amazing – right?

SOME ALREADY ADOPTED FELLAS AND GALS (because we know you like happy updates)

Sir. Charlie

Remember Charlie?  His so-called family moved out and left him, BLIND in the yard, pretty much starving???  A few neighbors and folks got together to help him out and spread the word about the poor babe.  Well, L-A-B member extraordinaire Karen Cole stepped up and adopted him.  Charlie’s right eye is doing great.   Neither eye has tumors, which is great news!  The left eye didn’t have any cones or rods in it – all eyes typically have rods and cones in them.  The pathologist used is one of the best in Texas and he said he has never seen that – EVER.   That’s our boy!!!  He also had his first doggie ice cream and bully stick this week.  No, not at the same time!!  Karen reports that he continues to be the happiest of boys (as all pitties should be!)

Lady Elsa

This Speaks for Itself…

I won’t pollute this outpouring of darlingness with my commentary.  Read for yourselves folks.  Update on Baby Girl from her Mom.

When Love-A-Bull posted a plea for someone to foster a sweet puppy that was about to be homeless, we figured, what’s one more? We offered to foster 5 month old Baby Girl. After meeting her, we could not fathom why anyone would even think of turning her out on the street. She is simply puppy perfection.

We set out to integrate her with our pack and get her ready for her forever home when someone adopted her. Little did we know, she was a quick learner and eager to please. In one day she knew sit. In two days she knew down and then wait and drop it. This girl is a smart cookie! The more I tried to write a fantastic bio so someone would want to adopt her I found myself not being able to do her justice.

She fell right into place with our two large dogs (one pittie and one retriever).  She plays and plays and runs them ragged. She is pure puppy joy and we decided we could not bear to give her up. We have renamed her Elsa and are looking forward to many years of showing her how great life can be with a family that treasures you. As you can see from her picture, she’s pretty darn happy here.

Smiley

We have already updated you on Smiley, but we got this fabulous picture from his adoptive mom, and well ’nuff said…from six years on a chain to this…

Update on Love-A-Bull Pooches

My first blog entry. Ohh! The pressure!

TA DA! A Love-A-Bull bloggedy blog blog blog!
We are diving back into this – with me leading the charge on the blog front. The Bront, if you will. Charge!

Now, um – here I am and here I sit wondering how one starts a blog??? I guess I could start by talking a bit about some stuff that we can all relate to… Hmmmm – like how much middle school sucked? Or, how freakin’ hot it is? Nahhh. What would we all care about…

Ahh! I will tell yall some good news that we got going on up in here (up in here)..

Often times we reach out to the big group (sometimes a bit hysterically, ahem) asking for help with a specific dog. Then, crisis averted – we forget (how dare we) to update you with the good news.

So, here I come in on this Bront (remember – blog/front, from paragraph 1)
to deliver the good news!

Enough of my explaining and blabbing – I am anxious to get started!

Remember Smiley? He is one of the famed Martindale dogs–and he has been adopted!! Yep, he is one of the doggies that spent all six years of his little life on a chain. His family is super cool. They were lured to Mr. Smile Man by a Love-A-Bull member – locked eyes and hearts and now he is col’ kickin’ it on a couch, in a house with central air. No longer stuck at the end of a chain in the rain, heat, cold. I hear from a very reliable source (Leala Ward of Love-A-Bull) that he looks like a completely different dog. And he has a Chihuahua sister. Could it get any better?

Gotta give a shout out to his foster dad, Beau. He really turned this pooch around and truly made it possible to save his life. Thank you.

A snoozing Smiley on his new couch with his new sister.

While I am on the topic of Martindale dogs, I will let you know about Miss Harley. Now named Kiko has found her twin up in Oregon. Not kidding – check this out:

I can’t even tell which is which.

Aaaaaaaaannnnnnyyyyyyyway – they saw her online and fell in love with her. L-A-B leadership member, Jot, just happen to be driving up to Portland, Oregon. So off Harley went – into the great northern Pacific where all the famous vampires live (that’s according to my 12 year old niece). Apparently Kiko and her new twin sister are completely in love.
Yeah, looks like it judging by the picture. Major making out goin’ on up there. Is that weird? J

Did I mention that Harley, oops – Kiko spent her whole life on a chain too? I did? Well, just want to mention it again. Look how far she has come!

What’s In A Name?

Is it Layla? Lady Bug? Tyson or Titan? These two Martindale dogs are now being called Layla and Tyson.

PS there are 5 Martindale dogs in case you are getting confused. Cos’ itssssoeasy to get confused between them.

Layla and Tyson were the two that were talked about in The Statesman (article can be read: here)

Anyway, they are doing really super awesome except for the fact that they don’t have forever homes YET! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? Seriously folks. Luckily, Layla has a great foster. Truthfully I am not sure that I have ever met a more affectionate doggie. She thinks she is a tiny little toot – not the 50 lbs of loveliness that she really is. She prefers laps to walking I think. Snuggly wonderful pup – she will make someone really happy. She loves dogs, cats, kids, everyone. One of the best temperaments EVER!!!! Again, SHOCKED that she spent 3 years on a chain. Her foster mom reports she is starting to hold her head up a bit (it is permanently damaged from that darn heavy chain)! Did I mention she loves convertibles?

Tyson is such a like, DUDE. So cool. Friendly, fun, did great in my car and at the vet. Is learning all kinds of cool stuff at Training By Tara. Here is the deal with him though, his training runs out soon and he doesn’t have any place to go. So we are totally sweatin’ the whole thing. Can anyone foster the coolest chap around? I mean, this dog is soooo chhh chhh chillin’. On a recent walk at the mall, he was trying to get himself a drink of water so he tried to get up on the fountain. KERPLUNK. He fell in. HE LOVES water. Baby pools, fountains, you name it. He is that goofy pittie that always makes you laugh. So far, he has learned a TON at Training By Tara. You would be SO impressed. He walks so well on a loose leash. Everyone stops to stare at the big pittie with the cut ears, walking so nicely. You’d never believe he spent 3 or so years of his life on a chain just a few short weeks ago! Here he is chillin’ on the couch when Tara went on vacation. But seriously, this was the first time he had ever seen a house, don’t you think he deserves a real one?

Then there is Rosie. OHHH Rosie Rosie.

She ain’t dwelling on the past, so I won’t either. Rosie’s life was saved a week ago. Pulled on her euth date at TLAC, she went to her angel foster parent and is doing super awesome. Getting along with her sister Monica -

She is loving life in a major way. Her foster mom Leigh is patient and understanding and is helping work out some of Rosie’s insecurities. According to Leigh Rosie is doing amazing! She is learning tricks and having fun on walks. She is eating fresh chicken and sleeping in bed with her foster brother. BUT – folks, she still needs her home. Keep her in mind, will ya??

Gotta go – my dogs are barkin’ yall.
Stay tuned for more great news.
