The Latest on the Fluffy Kids

Kyra

Love-A-Bull received a call for help a couple weeks ago from a local shelter. Kyra was on the kill list due to space issues –her time was running short. We were able to find an emergency placement for Kyra and over the course of the next 24 hours learned more about what this sweet girl has seen.
Kyra has experienced first hand some of the worst behavior humans are capable of… Before her last few weeks at the shelter Kyra was being held by an animal abuser posing as a foster. When authorities were able to enter the house they found horrific evidence of abuse and neglect and learned that Kyra had been locked in a small closet for up to three months with no access to food or water other than what her abuser allowed . Rare are the cases when a shelter is better than a home.  Unfortunately, this was Kyra’s situation.  Today Kyra is in a safe environment awaiting much needed heartworm treatment and recovering from a terrible skin infection. She has been described by others as having a shining personality– a typical pittie, she is still a sweetheart despite what humans have done to her. She is good with other dogs and is working on house manners. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Kyra please let us know!

Three-Legged Charlie

Well, Charlie had it rough.  He had been hit by a car and only had three legs. He was neglected and left outside with no food or water until he was nothing but skin and bones. Someone stepped in and took him away from his previous owner.  Unfortunately, her other dogs weren’t so nice to Charlie–they bullied him; he just lied down and took it. She started keeping him in a  hot kennel in the garage.  He developed sores all over his tummy and mouth, as well as his elbows and feet. Some of the sores even oozed. Skyler from Rusty Cage Rescue found out about him, and wanted to help, but she didn’t have the money.  We are pretty low on funds ourselves, but couldn’t stand the thought of turning the fella away.  So, we stepped up because, well…..I mean, look at him!

Tex

Tex was a stray for nearly a year before she be-friended a twelve year old boy named Jeremy. It turned out to be the right boy.  Jeremy would walk to ATA to get dog food to feed her.  Unfortunately, the apartment that Jeremy and his family lived in did not allow them to keep a dog so she had to slept on the porch. Jeremy was so responsible!  He wanted to get her spayed, but ATA said he needed an adult to get her spayed and up-to-date on her shots. Leala stepped in as his “adult” and Love-A-Bull got Tex spayed and up-to-date on all her shots. When animal control came to try and take her, Tex was afraid….she didn’t trust anyone but Jeremy.  Animal Control was foiled!  No TLAC for Tex!  Jeremy’s mom could see that the bound between these two could not be broken, and that he had been a responsible boy!  So, she decided to move out and find somewhere to live where they could properly keep Tex.  Leala fostered Tex in the interim, and Jeremy’s family has since moved into a house where Tex is now living a happy indoor life with her forever family.  Don’t you love happy endings?

Angel

Leala met this sweet little pup at Emancipet, and felt so sorry for him.  He had a horrendous case of mange when he was found by an elderly woman, who later past away.  The granddaughter, who was only seventeen wanted to take care of Angel, but didn’t have the means.  Boy was she grateful when Love-A-Bull offered to help (while at Emancipet to help yet another dog!!!).  I guess Angel had an Angel.

Pepita (k/n/a Trey) of Martindale fame has been adopted!
