We’re so excited that it’s yet another October, which means … it’s National Pit Bull Awareness Month (PBAM)!
To help us celebrate, we launched a merchandise design contest earlier this fall. We had one amazing winner (Ryan, on IG @ryannicoleart), but we have another special campaign active NOW through Oct. 11 to help us tell the world just how magical pit bulls are!
Elizabeth Lynn (IG @cygnette_art) submitted the “Pit Bulls Are Magic” design as part of our PBAM Design Contest, and it was a voter favorite! (You might recognize the cute witch as based off our wonderful co-founder, Lydia Zaidman, with her pittie Zoe!) You can order “Pit Bulls Are Magic” on a variety of cute and cozy merchandise items NOW via Bonfire.
BUT HURRY! This limited-edition merch is available only until Oct. 11. All items will ship Oct. 20-29, just in time for Halloween. Let’s get witchy!
Thank you to everyone who supported our first-round 2021 PBAM merchandise campaign! We sold nearly 80 items and raised over $800 to benefit Love-A-Bull.
We can’t wait to see you representing your pittie pride all month long!
Save the date: PBAM silent auction and party!
Join us for our virtual Pit Bull Awareness Month Silent Auction on Oct. 19! We’ll have 100+ items valued at over $10,000 total available for local and national bidders, with the auction closing on Oct. 26 — officially Pit Bull Awareness Day! From doggy gift baskets and luxury camping gear to high-end jewelry and experience gift certificates, we have something for everyone!
✨ Stay tuned for updates when we launch the PBAM 32Auctions website soon! ✨
We’ll also be celebrating Pit Bull Awareness Month and our lucky 13th anniversary as a 501(c)3 nonprofit on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Yard Bar! Our PBAD/Anniversary Party will feature a costume contest, silent auction item pickup and more fun!

We’ll even have a fun chance for you to win prizes if you purchase any Love-A-Bull merch or your dog wears a costume for early Howl-o-ween! More prizes available if you join and fundraise for our Strut Your Mutt team!
Reminders:
❤️ This is a casual on-leash walk to showcase responsible pit bull guardianship, but all breeds are welcome. Bring your pitties for PIT BULL AWARENESS MONTH!
❤️ We kindly request 1 dog per handler. If you have 2 dogs, bring a second person!
❤️ Bring a 6-foot or shorter leash, poop bags and whatever equipment your dog needs for a safe, enjoyable walk with people and other dogs (harness, muzzle, etc.).
Adopt-A-Bulls in need of fur-ever homes
Check out our long-stay Adopt-A-Bulls (dogs in our care for 90+ days)! We are in special need of foster or adopter homes for Gus and Cleo. Know anyone? Share this newsletter!
All of our Adopt-A-Bulls, including puppies and other new arrivals, are listed here. Email adopt@love-a-bull.org or foster@love-a-bull.org for info!
Volunteer with us
Please email getinvolved@love-a-bull.org if you are interested in any of these opportunities:
URGENT Fosters — we are always in need of fosters so we can pull more dogs at risk of euthanasia from rural Texas shelters. This year, we’ve had a major slowdown in fostering and adoptions as people go back to working in office or otherwise returning to “normal” life. “Unicorn” ? homes, those without other pets or kiddos, are especially helpful! Get in touch if you or someone you know can open their home to an Adopt-A-Bull, even for a short-term stay or over the holidays! They need you!
? Community Outreach & Education Coordinator — help our goal of reducing the homeless animal population by hosting spay/neuter and shot clinics, plus other outreach/education efforts. We’d love to offer another Chloe’s Clinic in 2022, but really need this coordinator position to do so!
? Newsletter Coordinator [AT-HOME OPTION] —Do you love writing and putting together simple photo and graphic layouts? We need someone who’d like to send our quarterly newsletter as well as special giving campaign e-blasts to help us meet our end-of-year fundraising goals!
Leadership update
We welcomed two new board members in mid-July!
Macie Hay Sharpe, Board Treasurer, has both worked at and volunteered with rescues throughout Texas and Louisiana. She served as accountant at Austin Pets Alive! for two years, as well as volunteers as a dog walker, CGC/TOP Dog trainer and member of the Legislative and Policy Committee.
Alexis Mulholland, Board Member, has fostered for Love-A-Bull and another pit bull rescue and also volunteers rehabbing wildlife with Austin Wildlife Rescue. She has a bachelor’s degree in wildlife and fisheries with an emphasis on animal behavior and a minor in psychology.
Interested in becoming a board member of a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based pit bull rescue? Email us at getinvolved@love-a-bull.org!
